From following her father’s boxing involvement, Oak Park, Illinois’s Samantha Guzman gained an addiction to the Sweet Science.

In 2005, at age 15, Guzman laced up the gloves for the first time and went on to win the Silver Gloves in her opening year parricipating in the sport. A year later, she claiming the Silver medal at the Junior Nationals Open Division.

Guzman won the Chicago Golden Gloves in 2007 on her way to winning Nationals.

She climbed the national rankings to the top spot in 2008 while being an alternate at the US Championships.

With some time away from the sport, Guzman focused on life. She went on to college in preparation for life away from the ring.

As Guzman settled into her adult life, she relocated to the far western suburbs and found Trainer Pat White at Tri-City Boxing in St. Charles.

In October of last year I met Guzman at a humanitarian benefit – Face The Fight campaign with BeautifulFighter.com – visiting Ronald McDonald House near Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago to meet and provide supportive hope to children and their families with life’s battles.

Guzman was inspiration for young warriors in life, giving positivity to one’s dreams and accomplishments.

She expressed to me her dream desire to restart her career in the professional ranks.

After a couple failed matchups fell through in 2019, Guzman has her moment and opponent.

This Sunday evening at McBride Hall in Gary, Indiana, Guzman makes her anticipated debut against Myasia Oglesby of North Carolina of Derrick Findley’s DM Fight Promotions show.

In preparation for this debut bout, Guzman has been working with unbeaten prospect Avril Mathie, Canadian National Champion Shelly Barnett, former Chicago’s amateur standout/now undefeated Michelle Morales among others.

Guzman told us, “I’m feeling good. Can’t wait to finally make my debut, it’s been a long time coming.”

Her trainer, White, stated, “I am happy to finally get this chance for Sam. She is going to kill (not literally) this girl.” He continued by citing, “She will fight at 118 for this fight. She could contend at 112.”
