Ahead of her WBC Super Welterweight defense, Swedish boxer Mikaela Lauren (26-3, 11 KOs) went public saying she would refuse to fight on Saturday night unless her bout had male ringcard bearers instead of the “sexist” ringcard girls.
Lauren is scheduled to face former IBF champion Ivana Habazin (15-2, 6 KOs) as as a main feature of the Sauerland Promotions show in Stockholm.
“I’ve spoken to my promoter and told him that I will not fight if they use number girls,” “Why should there be a half naked woman in the ring when two top female athletes are competing? I think it’s sexist. Women shouldn’t be seen as sex objects!” “I want a number boy,” “I think that’s only fair, and I’m sure it will be give the women in the audience some pleasure as well.”
In time for the weekend showcase, her requests were adhered to.
