Mexican-born Alejandra “Fenix” Ayala (11-4, 6 KOs) will be making her US debut, after relocating from Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico to Chicago. New home, new gym, trainer, and manager gives her a fresh start and fast pace towards a shot at a major title.

Ayala signed with Rick Ramos Boxing and became a transplant to Chicago to train under him at Body Shot Boxing Club, joining the current WBC Super Lightweight Champion Jessica “CasKILLA” McCaskill. Ramos obtained a shot at a Minor title for Ayala in January (a quick disposal of Denise Castro via 1st Round TKO) and now she has an increase taste for more gold.

This Saturday, Ayala will be back inside Derrick Findley’s DM Fight Promotions ring in the Chicagoland area for the first time while looking for that next step towards a shot at a major title. The stage is set for McBride Hall in Gary, Indiana.

The opponent to stand in her way is Louisiana’s 15 bout veteran Latasha Burton, who has spent her last three years facing champions, former champions, and true prospects such as WBC Super Middleweight Champion Franchon Crews-Dezurn, WBA Super Middleweight Champion Alicia Napoleon, Mary McGee, Tori Nelson, Raquel Miller, Maricela Cornejo, and more.

“I’m feeling great! Ready to get in the ring again” stated Ayala.

“I am very excited actually. At this point, just anxious for it to be fight night already.” Ayala continued, “I am very confident with the work my team and I put in leading up to this fight, and I’m happy to be in the position. We want it to lead to a world title shot.”

Being a Welterweight, that leaves one champion as an option… Cecilia Brækhus.

Ayala responded, “Yes, at this weight. Although we would consider going up or down a division if the fight was worth it.”

Good luck to you, Champ! Keep progressing for that gold!
