In her fourth championship bout of 2018, Flint, MI’s Unified Middleweight Champion Claressa Shields (8-0, 2 KOS) clearly outclassed the WBO Super Middleweight Champion Femke Hermans (9-2, 3 KOs) of Belgium on Saturday night.
Only weeks ago, the WBC, WBA, and IBF Champion “T-Rex” Shields dealt a shutout decision victory over Scotland’s Hannah Rankin and announced that she would be back inside the championship ring very soon after.
Obviously, plans were in the works all along that Shields could be inserted into the supporting mix for 360 Promotions’ UNDISPUTED featuring P4P Queen and Unified Welterweight Cecilia Brækhus defending her hardware against Aleksandra Magdziak Lopes on the final HBO Boxing show.
As fight week came and progressed, Shields maintained a humble demeanor in respect to Hermans.
Once the opening bell rang, it was all business.
Shields hammered away at Hermans, who struggled finding an adequate range. Shields’ power punch states were uncomparable, throwing over twice as many power punches and outlanding 104-25 over 10 rounds of championship boxing.
Shields just outworked her visiting opponent with total punches landed nearly tripling the challenger. Shields also sprayed her advances all over the head and body of Hermans.
Showing heart, Hermans persevered through the full 20 minutes of action, including the flurry that constituted a massive hook from Shields that spun her head and eyes back in the closing seconds of the match.
