The September WBC Atomweight Championship war between Louisa Hawton and Brenda Flores was set for a rematch on 360 Promotion’s December 8th show featuring Unified Welterweight Champion Cecilia Brækhus and WBA and IBF Middleweight Champion Claressa Shields in separate bouts.
Flores edged out the favored Hawton on the scorecards in September in what some called a controversial Split Decision victory in September.
Late yesterday, interim WBC Atomweight Champion Flores (15-4-1, 3 KOs) of Mexico announced that she has to withdraw from competition as recommended by her doctor for a viral infection.
Australia’s Hawton (8-2, 4 KOs), while looking to regain respect after losing 2 of her 3 bouts since signing with Tom Loeffler’s 360 Promotions, was appearing to be left without an opponent but not for very long…
According to Boxrec.com, Hawton will not square off with Lorraine Villalobos (2-1) of Los Angeles, CA in a scheduled 10 round matchup.
Villalobos has only fought in 4-Rounders in her 3 professional bouts. If this matchup holds true, they would surely lower the scheduled rounds due to the replacement’s short work history. She is also coming in after suffering a Majority Decision defeat to Monica Flores only 2 months ago.
An official announcement is sure to come soon.
Flores stated on social media that her doctor has recommended a return somewhere in February/March window so a rematch should happen in early Spring.
