CHAMPION CECILIA BRAEKHUS DESTROYS ANNE SOPHIE MATHIS IN TWO, FACES KLARA SVENSSON NEXT
By Malte Muller-Michaelis
What a “homecoming” for Cecilia Braekhus! In the historic first ever World Championship bout in Oslo, which also was the first professional boxing fight in Norway in over 35 years.
the “First Lady” of boxing stopped Anne-Sophie Mathis in the second round to successfully defend her WBC World Welterweight Championship.
In front of a fired up sold out crowd of 9,000 enthusiased fans at the Spectrum Arena – including Norway’s prime minister Erns Solberg, Braekhus went to work very focused winning the first round by landing some clean shots.
In round two a well timed right hook to the head opened a cut on Mathis’ left eyelid. The Norwegian superstar immediately followed up and stunned Mathis with an unanswered combination of hard shots to the head forcing referee Frank-Michael Maass to jump in and wave it off after 1:04 minutes of the second round.
Norway’s Undisputed Welterweight Champ Braekhus is now on a straight collission course with “The Swedish Princess” Klara Svensson who was in attendance ringside. Svensson won the interim Welterweight title by outworking Mikaela Lauren two weeks ago.
