In the Main Event at Turning Stone Resort and Casino, WBC and IBF Super Middleweight Champion Claressa “T-Rex” Shields (5-0, 2 KOs) flat out dominated previously undefeated challenger Tori “Sho-Nuff” Nelson (17-1-3, 2 KOs).
Uncharacteristically, Shields kept a slower pace than her previous matchups, being strategic with her strikes.
A more reserved and patient Shields allowed Nelson to come forward and attack, while Shields poked and struck, with angles, when Nelson could not keep up her pace.
Nelson wobbly at bell of the 7th Round, but showed resilience in standing her ground for a full 10 rounds.
Official scores: 100-90, 100-90, 100-90
Following the judges decision was read, the victor was met with Christina Hammer, Shields’ destined opponent.
Shields stated, “I have to drop down and see how I feel (for facing Hammer). I think I could make 160 easy. I’m going to be bigger and stronger than any girl.” She added, “I think she’s pretty scared to be honest. She is more worried about me than I am about her. I’m going to kick Hammer’s ass. People think Hammer is more skilled than me, so I can’t wait to show her that she’s not.”
Hammer responded, “I’m long-time world champion and I have more experience. I have longer reach’ I’m tall’ I have good footwork and better technique than her. I feel the energy. And I can’t wait to fight against her.”
While critiquing the Main Event, Hammer cited, “No disrespect to Claressa, she doesn’t have great power. She has great speed and she overwhelms you with a lot of punches.”
