From WBC:
Alarm Call for “That Girl” VS “The Gem”
World Boxing Council female light flyweight champion Esmeralda ‘Joya’ Moreno, stakes her crown against Yesenia ‘Niña’ Gomez at the Playa del Carmen Poliforum, Quintana Roo, Mexico, this Saturday in a rematch that will be broadcast on Televisa Deportes.
Esmeralda, who in a memorable slugfest won the 108-pounds belt against Ibeth ‘Roca’ Zamora, will make her first defense against Gómez, who has an extensive experience, as she debuted in professional boxing aged just 16 years old. That’s why her nickname is ‘Niña.’
‘Joya’ commented: “This card means a lot for women’s boxing. Before I won my belt, I won two national titles, the Silver Championship, against the best female fighters in the world. I learned from Don José Sulaimán to work day by day and step by step towards fulfilling our dreams.”
Yesinia commented: “I’m grateful for this. I have a great team, and it’s a great chance to make history, I’m really looking forward to fighting and I’ve trained since January, as it’s the opportunity of a lifetime and I’m not going to waste it. Every day I wake up with a desire to make history.”
Both fighters complied with the weigh in:
Esmeralda Moreno 108 pounds.
Yesenia Gómez 106.2 pounds.
