Ship shape Crews retains WBC crown
World Boxing Council female super middleweight World Champion, American Franchon Crews Dezurn, had to battle 10 rounds to beat late substitute Mexican- American, Maricela Cornejo, successfully defending her crown for the first time.
Crews Dezurn faced a durable opponent, who accepted the title fight just this week, as Alejandra Jiménez could not travel to the United States due to problems with her work visa.
Cornejo was a worthy rival, soaking up a lot of overhead rights, and spasmodically exchanging counters but she was totally outgunned and outmuscled by a sturdy hard hitting Crews. The scores of 98-92, 98-92 and 97-93 mapped a clear picture of dominance.
