Lacking some buzz in leadup to tomorrow night’s Lightweight unification bout, Ireland’s own WBA Champion Katie Taylor (8-0, 4 KOs) and Argentina’s IBF Champion Victoria Bustos (18-4) weighed in today within the division limits and the stage is set for their much anticipated showdown.
Official Weights:
Bustos (IBF Champion)- 134.2 lb
Taylor (WBA Champion) – 134.4 lb
Speed and Power meets Tenacity and Determination. The sportsman-like, respectful hugs that occurred after today’s faceoff will not continue when the bell rings though.
Quotes from Thursday’s Press Conference –
Eddie Hearn:
“This young lady (Taylor) is a phenomenal talent. She has boxed at the Barclays Center before. She has boxed at Wembley Stadium in front of 90,000 people. She has boxed at Millenium Stadium in front of 80,000 people. Just a huge star from Ireland. Five (5) time world amateur champion. Six (6) time European amateur champion. Olympic Gold Medalist. And, already WBA Champion of the World. She has, by far, the toughest fight of her career on Saturday night against the longest reigning world champion in women’s boxing (Bustos).”
Bustos:
I cannot wait to face Katie Taylor, a great and very tough opponent but I will bring my best to unify both championships and bring both titles back to Argentina.”
Taylor:
“The Barclays Center seems to be my home away from home. It was great to boxer here the last time.”
“I am so excited for this fight on Saturday evening. Victoria Bustos is a proven champion. She’s a great champion.”
“There is so much great publicity about women’s boxing at the moment because these fights are happening. So, it’s a great opportunity for both of us.”
“It has always been my dream and ambition to unify the titles so I feel noone is going to get in my way on Saturday evening.”
