From WBC:
Lupita Martinez retains WBC Belt
Guadalupe “Lupita” Martinez, retained her World Boxing Council Super flyweight female Championship, defeating challenger Debani Balderas by UD, at the Unidad Deportiva Tulum, Quintana Roo.
The event was presented by Promociones del Pueblo and Cancun Boxing in a TELEVISA TUDN telecast for Mexico. The scores of the judges were 100-90, all clearly in favor of Martinez.
The aggressiveness of Lupita made the difference in the fight. Taller Debani with her longer southpaw reach, was simply not able to keep her distance with the jab. The champion, who constantly cut down the distance upped her two fisted attack, as the fight wore on, coming very close to stopping the challenger in the last moments of the eighth round.
Debani was comprehsively outfought throughout, but showed tremendous bravery and terrific resistance in the face of a non stop onslaught.
This was Lupita Martinez’s fifth defense of the cherished Green and Gold Belt that she conquered on 2017 defeating the experienced and powerful former champion Zulina Muñoz. Since then her determination and hunger have visibly increased. This was a ruthlessly efficient and effective performance.
