CHRISTY SALTERS (MARTIN) PLANS SPECTACULAR DEBUT AS A BOXING PROMOTER
Pioneering Christy “Coal Miner`s Daughter” Salters (Martin) who spectacularly put Women`s Boxing firmly on the map, is poised to present her first Promotion on October 19th, with a cracking contest for the vacant NABF Female bantamweight Championship crown between Rosalinda Rodriquez Vs Noemi Bosques, at the Grady Cole Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Christy who justified her nickname by always digging deep during her fabulous career, in which she won the WBC super lightweight title, fought 59 times, with 49 wins, 31 KO`s, seven defeats and three draws. Legendary Promoter Don King was so impressed by Christy`s dedication, sheer grit, spectacular fighting style and audacity, that he put her on the undercards of several Mike Tyson fights! She also fought on the undercards of Evander Holyfield, Felix Trinidad and Julio Cesar Chavez. Christy was the first female boxer to be inducted into the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame.
Now Christy is determined to channel her inspiration, ability, acumen, energy and foresight into boxing promotion. Her company Pink Promotions combines and coordinates with Mercedes Vasquez of Pretty Girl Promotions for this spectacular show. It`s Christy`s promotional debut and she`s determined to give fight fans and the general public a wonderful plus exciting show to remember! Christy stresses this Championship fight between Rosalinda and Noemi is going to be a show stealer and will give the crowd its money worth. Neither is a classic boxer. They`re brawlers who are tough, durable, hard hitting and strong.
This much anticipated bout will be done under the directive of NABF Chairperson Paula Mclellan who is also the Official Supervisor of that fight. Another bonus on this spectacular card, is promising 24 year old Christian Camacho- son of the famous, late great Hector “Macho” Camacho.
Christy said: “All along I knew I would be a promoter. There`s so much to be done and I`m here with my feet on the ground in Charlotte, North Carolina. The issue is to sell tickets, convince people to attend to see some great boxing and to build on that success. These two women are going to give us a REAL FIGHT!”
The World Boxing Council, which admires Christy`s boxing abilities and organizational skills, has made a generous donation, via its WBC Cares programme, so that a considerable amount of school supplies can be bought for children in the area. Typically thorough, Christy has scheduled meetings with local schools to gauge their specific needs, starting with paper and pencils and including a whole range/array of materials, urgently required by youngsters in real need. Christy who`s a Graduate of Concord College in Athens, West Virginia where she earned a BS in Education, is keen to help kids to gain these essential materials. So much so, that she`s also arranging for huge bins at this fight night premiere, so people can donate money and school gear. It`s for a great cause!
Christy who`s keen to become a promoter of note in her own right, with her own individual style, none the less smiles as she recounts a sage, shrewd piece of advice from the wily and astute Don King. “He told me…ask for ten times what you want… and then start to negotiate!”
