A little later than expected, Hannah Rankin reenters the ring for championship action on Saturday, June 16th on MTK Scotland’s Summertime Brawl show at the Lagoon Leisure Centre in Paisley, Scotland.
Rankin (4-1, 1 KO) was excited to the hilt that she was to be the first woman to compete for the famed Commonwealth title on April 7th, but the bout was postponed due to reasons outside of her control.
Fast forward a couple months and Rankin went for competing for a regional title to a world championship, the WBC Silver Super Welterweight belt on Saturday.
That extra time gave her more preparation time with WBC/WBO Champ Christina Hammer (who defends her titles on June 22nd), IBO Champ Ivana Habazin, WBC Challenger Maria Lindberg, former WBC Champ Klara Svensson, IBO Champ Chantelle Cameron, Up and Comers Savannah Marshall, Elin Cederroos, and more.
There had been words with WBC and IBF Super Middleweight Champion Claressa Shields before her fight was made with Hanna Gabriels on June 22nd, potentially leading to a matchup down the road.
But first, Rankin must take care of business on Saturday in her home country where she takes on unbeaten 43-year old Sanna Turunen (4-0-1, 1 KO) of Finland.
Turunen replaced Uruguay’s Katia Alvarino (8-4-1, 3 KOs) within the last couple weeks but is ready for this huge matchup despite not facing an opponent with a winning record yet until Saturday.
With Rankin’s sparring opponent experience and dedication to her craft, look for her to make her first mark on the global stage on Saturday and start to pave her path towards gold.
