Jackie Nava defeats Carolina Alvarez in Mexico

The Mexican fighter Jackie ‘Princesa Azteca’ Nava defeated the Venezuelan Carolina Alvarez at the Municipal Auditorium Fausto Gutiérrez Moreno from her native Tijuana, Baja California, by technical knockout in the seventh round to capture the interim title bantamweight for the World Boxing Association.
Nava, who was already WBA Bantamweight Champion in 2005 and also Super Bantamweight Champion of the WBA in 2012, did not fight in the bantamweight class since 2011 due to being harmed by the weight loss. For this fight, however, she looked in great form against a tough opponent such as Alvarez.
Nava, who improved her professional record to 35-4-3 and 16 knockouts, is considered in Mexico as one of the best female fighters of all time and showed why she is held in such high regard after having dominated ‘Fiera’ Álvarez with her dangerous right hand, leaving Alvarez with a professional record of 14-10-4 and 9 knockouts.
In the seventh round, the ‘Aztec Princess’ managed to put Alvarez in bad enough condition to force her to finish the seventh episode but Alvarez did not answer the bell for the eight round, giving Nava the knockout victory.
“I was surprised by her endurance, there were moments when I connected on her and I thought she was going to fall, but she did not. The plan was just to vary, hit up and down and press it, and it worked for us,” said the new interim champion.
