On Friday evening at the Polideportivo Jose Caballero, in Alcobendas, Comunidad de Madrid, Spain on the Guantes de Lobo promoted show, Joana Pastrana (13-1, 4 KOs) became the 2nd female Spaniard to claim world gold.
Pastrana dug deep to get the points decision over Turkish-born Oezlem Sahin (24-2-1, 8 KOs), collecting the IBF World Minimumweight Championship.
Official Scores: 97-93, 95-95, 96-94 giving Pastrana the Majority Decision victory
In such a short career thus far, the 27-year old Pastrana has competed for the WBC Silver belt, has won the EBU championship title, and has successfully become the holder of a major world championship belt. Her debut match was only just over 2 years ago, on February 6, 2016.
Pastrana joins Maria Jesus Rosa Rosa as world champions of Spain. Rosa became WIBF Flyweight Champion back in 2003 before retiring in 2005 with a 19-1 record with 4KOs.
Not too far down the road, I am sure we will be seeing a rematch and now unification between Pastrana and the newly crowned WBC Minimumweight Champion, Tina Rupprecht.
