Spain’s Joana Pastrana is setting her country’s records after becoming the first woman to successfully defend a world title.
The 28 year old Pastrana (14-1, 5 KOs) captured the IBF belt by Majority Decision victory over Germany’s Oezlem Sahin in June.
On Friday evening at the Polideportivo Jose Caballero in Alcobendas, Comunidad de Madrid, Spain, Pastrana went back to work against challenger Siriporn Taweesuk (40-5, 22 KOs) of Thailand.
From the opening bell, Pastrana was out to make a statement, putting Taweeuk to the canvas in the opening stanza.
On cruise control, Pastrana’s devastating right hand put Taweeuk back down the the canvas in the 7th Round before she could go no further. The bout was ruled a 7th Round TKO victory for the reigning champion.
Pastrana follows María Jesús Rosa as Spanish World Champions. Rosa captured the WIBF Light Flyweight Championship in 2003 over Terry Moss but never defended the title before losing her last career bout in 2005.
