Most of the time, we (boxing fans, followers, connoisseur. extraordinaires) all look to boxing kingdoms like Atlantic City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York for the biggest fight cards and signs of the true athletes. Most times, attention is purely on the men’s side of the sport. Unfortunately, that is soundly validated.
But, the tides are changing, as a small town girl (of Pueblo, CO) became the second straight #WomenofBoxing fan-voted Boxer of the Month on the sports ONLY public defining honor. Chantel Cordova fit that honor with some big time social media promotion from Team Cordova, following another big victory for another title strap.
Cordova follows Welterweight champion and June #BotM winner, Tori Nelson. The champ also becomes the sixth #WomenofBoxing to capture #theBIZ #BotM honor joining: Nelson (x2), Heather Hardy, Amanda Serrano, Ava Knight (x2), and Marlen Esparza in the two and a half years on the monthly honor.
After taking the GBU Flyweight crown in late 2013, Team Cordova took to Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, CA on July 11th for a chance at the NABF Super Flyweight strap against a tough Patricia Alcivar. Supported by her promoter (Cordova Promotions, owned and operated by her mother, Sherry Cordova), her (inspiration and training partner) son Elijah, and her manager father (Marvin Cordova Sr.) in her corner, “Gorgeous Babe” Cordova brought the best action to the whole fight card, delivering the cleaner punches and controlling the action in a bout that Alcivar seemed to not be able to match – winning the title by decision.
While conversing with the Champ last night about her triumph, she talked about her philosophy:
Motivation: “He (my son) is a major part of my life and my inspiration!”
Dedication and Faith: “I give all glory to God!”
Sport and Sacrifice: “Never give up on your dreams!”
Team Cordova is a true boxing family. As stated earlier, her mother, Sherry, is her promoter. Father, Marvin Sr., is her manager. Brother, Marvin Jr., has fought professionally (21-2-1, 11 KOs) and looking to make a comeback after time away. Her “Main Man”, Elijah, is there by her side every step of the way (literally).

With fandom, brings marketability. We anticipate seeing more and more of this “Gorgeous Babe” going forward into her continuously rising career.
