July’s #WoB #BotM competition turned into an amateur showdown between decorated amateurs: Canada’s two-time winner of Pan American Games, Mandy Bujold, and America’s first Olympic and Pan American Games Gold Medalist, Claressa Shields.
Shields is determined for more Olympic Gold as she has been on an unbeaten streak since 2012 London Olympic Qualifying. Since then, She captured Gold in London, claimed Gold in 2014 World Championships in South Korea, and now took Gold North of the Border at the Pan American Games in Toronto.
Shields keeps racking up awards, dating back to her Junior Olympic days. She has claimed two Junior Championships, National Police Athletic League Championships, Continental Championships as well in running her amateur record up to 60-1 with 18 KOs.
After scoring victories over Brazil’s Flavia Figueiredo and Argentina’s Lucia Perez, Shields was set to face a familiar foe that she has defeated three times previously in Dominican Republic’s Yenebier Guillen for the Pan American Games Gold Medal Match. Shields cruised to a Unanimous Decision victory with speed, aggression, and unmatched combination displays.
With her recent honors, Shields was also selected to lead Team USA as the flag bearer into the Pan American Games closing ceremonies.
