Reis delivers the jarring uppercut on Juarez

Fighting at the lightest weight of her career, Kali “KO Mequinonoag” Reis (16-7-1, k KOs), of Providence, RI, outpointed Patricia Juarez (4-2) of Colorado on DiBella Entertainment’s Brooklyn Boxing at Foxwoods Casino and Resort in Connecticut.

It took a couple rounds for the real action to get started as Juarez kept the action close and smothering.

Reis started connecting in the 2nd Round, making Juarez feel the lefts on her cheek.

The large Native American crowd really got restless as Reis delivered a definitive combination to end the 3rd Round.

Controlling the distance in the 4th allowed Reis to exploit the openings and unloaded.

38 year old Juarez is the younger sister to longtime world champion Mariana Juarez of Mexico but did not poses the same skills as her sisters. Her younger sister, Lourdes Juarez is a title hopeful, also down in Mexico.

Official Scores: 60-54, 60-54, 60-54

Reis appeased her hometown family and friends but deeply desired that KO.

This match made many statements beyond being close to home the victory, Reis (142 lbs at weighin, Juarez’ desired contract weight) appears destined to shake up the 140 pound division, where Katie Taylor is headed, where Jessica McCaskill holds the WBC and WBA belts, Amanda Serrano pops in and out of. With Team Empire Management controling the WBO title with stablemate Christina Linardatou, this will be a popular division to watch for the next couple years.
