“The best Irish fighter in the world. 🇮🇪
And Conor McGregor. 😉”

Katie Taylor and her promoter Eddie Hearn have always said they want a challenge. They believed they had one for Saturday evening at the TD Garden in Boston, in Brooklyn’s former champion Cindy “Checkmate” Serrano.

The “Bray Bomber” Taylor did everything but stop the durable but offenseless Cindy Serrano.

Taylor kept Serrano in “Check” with pops of every type of punch in the technical boxing book en route to a shutout Unanimous Decision Championship triumph.

The champ even stopped fighting momentarily in the 7th to drop her hand and even put them behind her back to give Serrano opportunity to mount any attack. It produced three little half-ass punches that fell well short of any part of the body.

The Seventh Round ego displayed by Taylor was uncharacteristic for her, could not come at a better time as she stated later, “I was tired of chasing her.”

Taylor’s skills were key to victory with her unbelievable hand speed, movement, control of the ring. She is truly in a league of her own. She kept the distance and popped at will while avoiding any of Serrano’s seldom advances. Serrano’s reach advantage was ineffective.

Power Punch Stats:
Taylor – Landed 164 of 332 Thrown – 49%
Serrano – Landed 20 of 86 Thrown – 23%

Official Judges Scores: 100-90, 100-90, 100-90

Post fight quotes from Taylor:
“I really expected more from Cindy Serrano tonight. She just looked like she was there to survive the 10 rounds… It was very disappointing bout. I really did expect this fight to be my toughest fight to date. It was quite boring at times just because she was not doing much. But a win is a win and I move on.”

“He (Serrano’s coach/Manager/Wife) was saying terrible things, with his wife in the ring. He was shouting, ‘You picked the weaker Serrano.’ That was a terrible thing to say. At least give your wife some encouragement.”

“I just want to be involved in big fights. It was a great atmosphere tonight.”

“On a potential bout with Amanda Serrano, Taylor stated, “I think she is doing everything she can to avoid our fight. I have always been quite vocal about that fight. I just want to be involved in big fights, like I said before. This is the biggest fight in women’s boxing so we have to make that fight happen.”

“The best is yet to come!”

Talks are of the future and facing Pound for Pound #1 and Unified Welterweight Champion Cecilia Brækhus POSSIBLY in 2019. Hmmmmmm… The Best Fighting the Best!

Eddie Hearn Quotes:
On Taylor’s next fight on December 17th (or December 22nd): “Amanda will do, if she wants to go next! Katie just needs the tests.”

“I would love to fight a champion because I know Katie is about ‘legacy’ and belts. And I know the Amanda fights and the Cecilia fights are nice but the original aim was to be the undisputed champion in the division. So I would still like her to maybe fight (Rose) Volante (current WBO Lightweight Champion) next.”

“I would love for her (Taylor) to finish her career as winning every belt in the division and then moving up. Normally, you do this and then have the Brækhus fight and those kind of fight because you have done everything. So we will see what we can attract. (Delfine) Persoon (current WBC Lightweight Champion), Volante, Brækhus, Serrano… I think those are the fights Katie needs really.”
