The fourth fight in the rivalry Melissa Hernandez (21-6-3, 6 KOs) and Layla McCarter (36-13-5, 8 KOs) hits Las Vegas Saturday evening at the Hard Rock Cafe. Update: The promoter and Nevada commission cancelled the entire card after conducting official weighins. No justicification has been given as of yet.
This multi-championships matchup has been a see-saw battle for the first three bouts, McCarter winning the first and last bouts respectfully.
In the first matchup in 2007, McCarter defended her Global Boxing Union lightweight title with an 8th round stoppage. They fought a rematch championship bout two months later with Hernandez snatching the title from McCarter’s grasp with a close Majority Decision.
Fast forward 7 years to November of 2014… McCarter handled her business after being absent from the ring for a couple years in issuing a one-sided Unanimous Decision defeat to Hernandez.
Having been inactive again, McCarter enters the ring with a refocused Hernandez.
Hernandez is rolling with two wins thus far in the 2015 campaign, wins over Ashleigh Curry and Loli Munoz. The Munoz victory was for the Universal Boxing Federation (UBF) Super Lightweight title.
Expect some hard knocks at Hard Rock on Saturday with these two.
