From WBC:
Mariana Juarez dedicates the WBC Pink Belt to her Mother
WBC female bantamweight champion, Mariana “Barby” Juarez attended the WBC weekly conference to discuss her glorious bitter sweet victory over Australian Susie Ramadan last Saturday in San Luis Potosí.
Mariana Juarez dominated the fight in its entirety, not only earning a thunderous ovation from the audience but also a special edition Pink Belt especially designed by the WBC commemorating the month of the fight against breast cancer.
For Mariana, this fight had a lot of perspectives, and close to home truths, because it didn’t only mean to have raised her hand to defend her belt for the sixth time. She also managed to fulfil a promise to her Mother Patricia, who tragically lost her titanic fight against cancer, showing characteristic tremendous and magnificent bravery.
As tough, resolute and uncompromising as they come in the ring, Mariana wept and paused… before remembering and paying tribute to her Beloved Mother as a shining and everlasting guide and a beacon of inspiration. The huge auditorium of the Rail Workers Union fell silent and tears were shed by the assembled who then applauded a true Champion, who has fought through the deepest grief from the most lonely and desolate place. Mariana outlined that this Pink Edition Belt represents so many heartfelt aspects, among them the awareness that cancer is a cruel and silent illness, but if it`s detected in time it can be vanquished!
Showing her competitive zeal, Mariana said that her next goal is to defeat Fatuma Zarika, the current WBC super-bantamweight champion.
At this point, the champ stated that NO things are impossible. And today her prime goal is to make history in women’s boxing being the first woman to win a WBC title in more than four divisions, because she doesn’t not only plan to conquer the super bantamweight division, she also wants the featherweight crown.
