From WBC:
“Barby” at fifty
WBC world bantamweight champion Mariana ‘Barby’ Juarez clocked up her 50th victory as a professional by defeating Japan’s Terumi Nuki at the Mexico City Arena, securing a mega showdown with Jackie Nava.
The rematch was the mega production of Promociones del Pueblo in association with Zanfer Promotions that reached millions of homes throughout Mexico.
“Barby” supreme, as she won her 50th pro bout, successfully defended the WBC female bantamweight crown, overcoming a tough intrepid warrior, who despite her grit, was very soundly defeated.
Referee Lennar Koivisto did not have to intervene very much as both ladies fought cleanly, asking and giving no quarter. Mariana dominated throughout, intelligently using distance; whenever she could, landing a high volume of powerful well directed shots.
After ten entertaining rounds, two of the judges scored 98-91 and the other 97-92. The field is now clear and open for a much anticipated fight against Jakie ‘Princess Azteca’ Nava, which has been years in the anticipation.
After the battle Mariana ‘Barby’ Juarez and Jakie Nava offered a press conference to the media where they confirmed their long awaited coronation. Only one will be crowned.
