On Golden Boy’s show at the Hangar at the OC Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa, CA, Maricela Cornejo (10-2, 3 KOs) of California knocked around South Carolina 10-year veteran Lisa Garland (15-10, 8 KOs) on their Friday Night ESPN Undercard 6-Round Middleweight clash.
From the opening bell, Cornejo controlled the action, whacking away at every opening Garland gave.
Leading with a strong and stiff jab throughout, Cornejo kept setting up Garland for the big right hand.
A jolting right halfway through the 4th Round staggered Garland. As she tried shaking it off Cornejo advanced and unloaded, prompting refereee Raul Caiz Jr to halt the fight.

At the time of the stoppage, Garland was complaining of her eye.

This was “La Diva” Cornejo’s 1st US based bout since signing with GBP in November.
