JONAS EYES WORLD TITLE SHOT IN 2019

Natasha Jonas looks to take the next step on her path to a potential world title fight when she makes her return on Friday’s huge #MTKFightNight event at the Liverpool Olympia.

The former amateur star Jonas (7-1, 5 KOs) faces Bec Connolly live on ESPN+ in association with Top Rank and also live on iFL TV, and she’s planning on making a big statement.

Jonas said: “I want to be a world champion. I didn’t get an Olympic medal, didn’t get a Commonwealth medal, so I’ve always been the nearly girl even though I’ve fought the best.

“I don’t want that to happen for my professional career so I do want to go out there and get world titles. I just want to be the best boxer I can.

“I never look past an opponent, she’s got a good record, she’s been in with a few experienced girls, and has been around a while.

“MTK Global are my management and wherever they want me to go, I’ll go, whoever they want me to fight, I’ll fight. I’ll fight anybody and I’ve never shied away from anybody.

“It’s great to be back in Liverpool as I didn’t get to fight here as much as I’d have liked as an amateur. I’ve heard nightmare stories off girls up and down the country when I first started about people not accepting [woman’s boxing] and not being supportive, but Liverpool has always supported me.

“We’re one of those cities where we get behind our own and we’re always very supporting. I love that about us as there’s lots of camaraderie and no doubt it will show on Friday.”

A huge bill on Friday also features a key showdown between Jazza Dickens and Nathaniel May for the IBF European featherweight title, four-time world title challenger Martin Murray back in action against Rui Manuel Pavanito, plus the likes of former world champion Terry Flanagan, Sam Maxwell, Ged Carroll, John Quigley, and Craig Glover make up a massive undercard.
