The first woman to win an Olympic boxing Gold Medal, Nicola Adams of England, is the next to leave the amateurs for the professional ranks. She will be following 2-time Gold Medalist Claressa Shields, Ireland’s 2012 Olympic Gold Medalist Katie Taylor, and 2012 Bronze Medal winning fan pleasing Marlen Esparza to the professional game, where they are making a major case and impact on women’s boxing growth for respect.
Adams is most known for winning Gold in the women’s boxing’s inaugural 2012 London Olympic Games on home turf and them matching the result last summer in Rio de Janeiro, both in the Flyweight Division. She has also claimed championships in many other tournaments, most notable being the 2016 AIBA World Championships in Astana, Kazakhastan, as well as 2015 European Games, 2014 Commonwealth Games, and numerous European championships.
At 34 years of age, Adams officially makes the professional jump after months of rumors and presumptions of her leaving the amateur ranks in the rear-view mirror. Her next move will be as a member of Frank Warren’s promotional stable and is set to contend within the Flyweight Division.
Adams professional debut is looking to be on April 8 at the Manchester Arena with a possibility of fighting in front of her hometown fans on May 13 in Leeds and will be televised in the UK via BT Sport and BoxNation.
