From WBF:

Tenge Puts On Masterclass, Dominates Game Szabados

03123World Boxing Federation (WBF) Womens World Super Welterweight Champion Noni Tenge consolidated her position as one of her divisions absolute top names on Friday night, March 18, when she retained her title against Szilvia Szabados at the Durban International Convention Centre in South Africa.

The game and strong Szabados kept coming forward in an attempt to bring the champion out of her stride, but Tenge used her superior skills to out-maneuver and out-box the Hungarian. While the home-girl won most of the rounds, it was never-the-less and exciting fight as Szabados continued to try her best.

At the end of ten fast-paced rounds it was clear that Tenge, living up to her nickname of “She Bee Stinging”, would keep her world title, and all three female judges, Sylvia Kokaila, Boitumelo Madiba and Phumeza Zanikile, scored it 99-91 in her favor. Referee in charge was Siya Vabaza.

This was the first title-defense for Tenge, who won the WBF Super Welterweight crown last December in an all-South African encounter with Julie Tshabalala. Also a former WBF, IBF and WBA world titlist at Welterweight, she improved her professional record to 16-1-1 (10).

Szabados, now 11-6 (4), came up short in her third crack at world honors, having lost previous attempts to win WBF and WBC titles at Super Middleweight. Now fighting at a more suitable weight, she proved that she belongs at world-level and at only twenty-five years of age she has time to come again.

Billed as “Queens of War”, the Tenge vs. Szabados WBF world title fight was promoted by Mileham & Malinga.
