West Virginia’s Super Middleweight Samantha Pill keeps putting in the work and it shows on fight night.
Saturday evening on Keith Barr promoted “The Rumble: Fight Night at the Feaster Center” show at Fairmont State University in Fairmont, WV, “Leggz” Pill (3-0) outworked and clearly outpointed Ohio’s Crystal Byers (0-3) in a near shutout 4-Rounder.
Official Scores: 40-36, 39-37, 40-36
This afternoon, we caught up with Pill to discuss the match.
“I was hoping for a better ending but I’ll take it. A TKO would’ve been nice but rounds are experience right lol”
“I’m comfortable that it was a confident and controlled fight”
“My strength so far has always been my jab, being from WV we’ve joked it’s as long as the Mason Dixon line, lol.”
“I am learning more and more each month of using my distance in various ways but I’m not afraid to get close either.”
“This camp I worked side by side with my trainer who also fought that night and new UBF Northeast North American Heavyweight Keith Barr.”
“It was a different training style this turn around both of us reaching out to others on the road for work at Signal 12 Gym and Ground Zero Fighting Systems. I put in more quality sparring rounds in the past month than the past year.”
“I’m ready for more. I’d love to have two more fights this year. Saturday was more a stressful night than I’m used to with so many friends and family fighting on our card as well but when it was time to lace my own boots I was relaxed and ready.”
“Now is the time for women fighters. ‘We’re here, we’re coming, you’re gonna see us, and you’re gonna like it.’ Men can bicker and make beef all day. It’s good for media and anticipation. We have to ride together to make our own fights and it’s working.”
