Martinez vs. Garcia has captured a lot of attention, especially in the State of Mexico which both fighters hail from. Lupita from Tlanepantla and Irma is just down the road from Cuautitlan, Izcalli.
Their sporting yet keen rivalry stretches way back, so the spirited tension between them and their teams, and has been simmering in recent days. This Saturday a full house is expected at the Convention Center, when it all comes to the boil, at full, steam!
“Lupita” is enjoying the best moment of her career. In February of last year, she managed to defeat the previous unbeaten Guadalupe Solis. Three months later, she starred in one of the biggest surprises of 2017 by dethroning the then world champion, Zulina “Loba” Muñoz, who was looking to set a defenses record. In September, she defended his scepter against Panamanian Carlota Santos, whom she knocked out in nine rounds.
However, now she will be facing “Torbellino” Garcia who’s trying with all her might to conquer a different division, but contrary to the usual, she will do it lowing a weight category, as she has been already a WBA bantamweight world champion.
“I’m going to greatly surprise Lupita. Indeed she will feel my power. I am sure that I will get the victory I will win the WBC title. When she hits me I will punch her three times back. It’ll be a Mexican war in the ring. Do not doubt it,” vowed the beaming Federal Police Officer.
The two defeats that Irma has suffered in her career have been in world championship fights, and with controversial decisions. In August of 2013 she lost by split decision against Jessica González. While in December of 2016, Mariana “Barbie” Juárez defeated her by majority decision.
“Lupita” Martinez is the more aggressive preferring to fight up close. While Irma Garcia is a “Speedy Gonzalez” slick southpaw.
