From New Zealand Boxrec Editor – Benjamin Watt:
Tania Reid goes for Australasian title
New Plymouth boxer Tania Reid is scheduled to fight this week in Sydney against Rachel Loder for the historical Australasian lightweight title.
The Australasian title is a very historical title, dating back to the first fight in 1887, with the first bout between Jack Hall and Torpedo Billy Murphy for the lightweight title. The first New Zealand boxer on record to win the title was in 1910 with Billy Wenand winning the bantamweight title. In all this time that the title has been fought for, the first women’s Australasian title was in September this year with Rachel Loder winning the lightweight title.
Rachel Loder will be defending her title against New Zealander Tania Reid. Tania Reid has fought for a long time in the amateurs, winning her first amateur title in 2008 at the Wanganui Championship. She won her second amateur title in 2011 at the Manawatu Championship. She is a four-time New Zealand National Amateur silver medalist and a five times New Zealand Golden Gloves silver medalist.
Tania Reid made her pro debut in 2017 with her first professional win against Wendy Talbot Unanimous Decision. Later that year she went up against Quinita Hati, but that bout ended in a draw. The rematched the following year, but this time for the New Zealand title. Unfortunately, Tania Reid lost by Unanimous Decision. Earlier this year Tania Reid fought her toughest opponent, New Zealand Champion Baby Nansen. Tania lost bout by Unanimous Decision.
The common problem Tania Reid has in her professional boxing career is that she still fought more like an amateur boxer and less like a professional boxer. Tania Reid has made some major changes with her training camp leading into this fight. She has been training in Thailand in a gym called Kombat Group Thailand, a gym that has over 15 different Kickboxing and boxing champions.
The fight will be taking place at Seagulls Rugby League Club, Tweed Heads, New South Wales in Australia on Saturday.
