From WBC:
Beaming Jackie and Mariana channel their combined willpower
Jackie Nava and Mariana Juarez have managed to get Mexico’s two main TVs, TV Azteca and Televisa, to share the same mega boxing card.
This Friday both fighters were face to face and cheek to cheek, but not dancing, in the final press conference before they rumble, rather than rumba on Saturday night.
The “Aztec Princess” and “Barby” will not fight each other for now. However, it will be the first time that these two boxers fight are on the same card.
For the past four years, Zanfer and Promociones del Pueblo have been working to get these two together in the same ring at the self same time. And if they both win on Saturday night, the long awaited ensuing clash is very likely to land smack bang in November.
“It’s the fight that everyone in Mexico wants to see and we hope that now it can happen,” stressed Juarez.
Negotiations between the companies of both fighters were slowed by Nava’s second pregnancy period and her work as a Federal Deputy.
“They wanted me to fight straight away. But this would have been a bad decision because of her being in the ring every three or four months and I was not in the ring for more than a year,” Nava said, who will be facing Venezuelan Alys Sánchez this Saturday, to hone her skills and shed any flecks of ring rust.
Meanwhile, Barby, who`s the World Boxing Council female bantamweight champion, will defend her crown for the fifth time against Japan`s Terumi Nuki.
The Arena of Mexico City will be the venue that will host the card, with an expected sellout crowd numbering more than twelve thousand.
