Saturday night at Dulles Sportsplex in Sterling, Virginia, former WBC champion and recent Super Middleweight and Middleweight contender Tori Nelson (18-2-3, 3 KOs) returned to the ring and made a huge statement that she has so much more left in the tank.
Nelson, having suffered her only two career losses in her last two matches (WBC and IBF Super Middleweight Champion Claressa Shields and WBC and WBO Middleweight Champ Christina Hammer), may have briefly pondered her potential retirement after the Hammer defeat in June. But, quickly decided to proceed.
On Ponytail Boxing’s show on Saturday, her return bout was against a tough and rugged Tiffany Woodard (4-12-3, 3 KOs) of North Carolina. While her record is not very impressive, but toughness is. Woodard has never been stopped. Many of her foes have stated that hitting her was like hitting a brick wall. She is impossible to move.
After a seemingly even early rounds, Nelson worked Woodard’s body in the 5th Round, wearing her down.
Nelson continued with the body work in the 5th Round. A right to the midsection followed by a left hook to the head sent Woodard backwards into ropes. Nelson sensed blood and went in hard before the referee stopped the onslaught.
Official Time of the Stoppage: 1:20 of Round 6
According to Boxrec, Nelson is slated for another bout on November 10at the same venue.
