The Showtime Boxing show on January 10th at the Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey has it’s opening act for their 3-fight telecast: Super Middleweight Unification match between Alicia Napoleon-Espinosa and Elin Cederroos.
Both parties share one thing in common: Both Napoleon-Espinoza and Cederroos defeated Belgium’s Femke Hermans to claim their respective championships.
Napoleon-Espinosa (12-1, 7 KOs) of Lindenhurst, New York, defeated Hermans in March of 2018 by widely scored Unanimous Decision victory to claim the vacant WBA 168 lb belt. This will be her third defense after her 4th Round stoppage of Schmelle Baldwin in her August title defense.
Promoted by DiBella Entertainment and managed by Team Enpire Management, Napoleon-Espinoza recently stated, “I have an amazing team of men that stand strong by my side believing in me, preparing me and working hard to open doors for me to thrive.” She continued, “I’m blessed and prepared to win and put on a memorable performance for all the world to see that night. I’m in tremendous spirits and excited and ready for the night to come.”
Cederroos (7-0, 4 KOs) of Vasteraas, Sweden, claimed the IBF strap only 9 months ago in a close Majority Decision win over the favored hometown Hermans. Recent work included a 3rd Round KO of Florence Muthoni in a non-title bout about a month ago.
Cederroos concluded, “Alicia Napoleon is a great champion, and she will be my toughest test, but I am ready.” Humbly, she added, “It is an honor for me to make my U.S. debut on such a prestigious card and to do so in a world title unification battle. Alicia and I will put on a great show.”
In the nights Main Event, Claressa Shields drops to Super Welterweight to contend for world title in her third weight division, opposing Ivana Habazin.
If both Shields and Napoleon-Espinoza come out victorious, they could square off for Shield’s unified titles later in 2020.
