From MTK Global:
QUARTET ADDED TO WBSS CARD IN GLASGOW
MTK Global quartet Lee McGregor, Chantelle Cameron, Tommy Philbin and Reece McFadden will star on the World Boxing Super Series card in Glasgow on May 18.
Undefeated Commonwealth bantamweight king McGregor (5-0, 5 KOs) makes his MTK Global debut in his home country against tough Nicaraguan Cristian Narvaez.
With compatriot Josh Taylor in a world title fight and pound-for-pound king Naoya Inoue also in action atop a glitzy bill, McGregor is beaming with anticipation.
McGregor said: “This is possibly one of the biggest nights Scottish boxing has ever seen. Josh challenging for his first world title and Inoue on the same bill makes it absolutely huge.
“It’s even better the fact there are some very promising prospects also on the undercard. It’s going to be a fantastic night and I’m delighted to be a part of it.”
World IBO champion Cameron looks to tee up her WBC final eliminator against Anisha Basheel on June 28 and is enthusiastic over another run out against Hungary’s Bianka Majlath.
Cameron said: “I love boxing in Scotland. I’ve boxed here before and this must be my fifth or sixth time. Now I’m boxing under Jamie Moore and Nigel Travis and I’m glad to be back there.
“I feel like I gained a few Scottish fans the last time I was there so it’s good to get the chance to build on that and perform for such a passionate group of people all over again.”
Undefeated Edinburgh super-middleweight Tommy Philbin (11-0, 4 KOs) makes a welcome return after a period of inactivity and is eager to pick up where he left off (a first-round stoppage win…)
Philbin, who faces Harry Matthews, said: “I’ve wanted to get back into the ring for a long time but illness has kept me away. I’m so excited to pick up where I left off with more wins.
“During my time off, I’ve gone back to perfecting the basics and I believe I’ve added a lot to my game with my new team. It’s amazing to have the chance to show it on such a card.”
Another local star, Motherwell’s McFadden, has been pitted against Bulgaria’s Georgi Georgie.
McFadden said:“It’ll be massive night for Scottish boxing. I’m so proud to be a part of it. There’ll be a huge Scottish crowd in The Hydro on the night.
“It’s great to have someone like Josh Taylor topping the card fighting for a world title and leading the charge for Scottish boxing. The fans in this country love him.”
