WOMEN’S FLYWEIGHT TOURNAMENT FOR THE DIAMOND BELT KICKS OFF IN OCTOBER
A major topic discussed at the Second WBC Female Convention, this past January in Tijuana, was a Flyweight Tournament for the Diamond Belt, and now it’s due to come to fruition.
After months of hard work, this historic event will be launched in October with three tremendous fights. WBC World Champion Yessica “Kika” Chavez starts the action on October 1st, defend her title against Japanese ring veteran and multiple-time World Champion Naoko Fujioka in Ecatepec, Mexico.
Just three weeks later, there will be two more tournament fights on the same night (October 22) in two different countries: “La Joya” Esmeralda Moreno will take on multiple-time World Champion Melissa McMorrow from the USA in Mexico City. While WBC Silver Champion Raja Amasheh is challenged by Mexico’s Ana Arrazola in Vienna, Austria.
Six of the best flyweight fighters competing, so these fights have the potential to become instant classics. The first round of the Flyweight Tournament will be completed on November 5th in Mexico when World Light flyweight Champion Ibeth “La Roca” Zamora enters the fray.
The winners will move on to the semi-finals which will take place between January and February 2017 with the grande finale for the Diamond Belt coming up in May or June.
