From WBC:
Yesenia Gómez honored by the Mexico City chamber of Deputies
World Boxing Council light flyweight champion Yesenia “Niña” Gómez, from Cancun, attended to Mexico City Union Congress to be presented with a distinguished honor.
WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman Saldivar also attended to this important event in order to honor the first woman from Quintana Roo to win a professional world boxing championship.
Yesenia Gómez, accompanied by her promoter Pepe Gómez, took the stand to receive this recognition and shared her experiences regarding her pro career, which started in 2011.
On September 22, “Niña” Gomez conquered the green and gold glory when she became WBC light flyweight champion, after defeating Esmeralda “Joya” Moreno on an exciting contest.
With only 24 years old, Yesenia managed to become a world champion, but also a role model to hundreds of women in Cancun, who now are fighting to turn their dreams into reality.
During her speech, Yesenia thanked the eternal support of her promoter, Pepe Gomez, who has always supported her since the beginning.
This event was possible thanks to the efforts of Luis Alegre Salazar and former champion Erik “Terrible” Morales.
