From WBC:
GREAT MEMORABLE AND HISTORIC YEAR FOR DELFINE PERSOON
WBC Female World Lightweight Champion Delfine Persoon has crowned as well as concluded a tremendous twelve months, by being elected Belgian Sportswoman Of The Year- the first time ever that a professional bóxer, male or female from Belgium, has received this special and prestigious award.
30-year-old Persoon had truly a great year of 2015 defending her WBC World Championship twice and earning the top spot in the Female pound-for-pound ratings.
On April 25th she traveled to Berne, Switzerland, to stop mandatory challenger Nicole Boss in the ninth round. On November 11th, Persoon earned a hard fought unanimous decision win over previously unbeaten European champion Maiva Hamadouche in a spectacular “Fight Of The Year” candidate.
Delfine turned pro in 2009 and is unbeaten for more than five years. She’s won 35 of her 36 pro fights, with the sole loss coming early in her career. In 2014, she became WBC Female World Champion by defeating previously unbeaten Erica Anabella Farias. And then successfully defended her title against then reigning WBC Female Super Featherweight Champion Diana Prazak.
The WBC congratulates the champ for this hard earned and very well deserved honor. We are also delighted and proud to announce that Delfine Persoon will attend the Second WBC Female Convention in Tijuana, Mexico, from January 27th to January 31st, 2016.
