From WBC:
McCaskill determined to trap and tame “The Panther”
Jessica McCaskill is in the hunt, to defend her World Boxing Council female super lightweight championship in an highly anticipated rematch against Argentina’s Erica “Pantera” Farias at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago on Saturday night.
McCaskill (7-2 3 KOS) won the WBC crown at the same place a year ago, defeating Farías by decision.
Jessica subsequently unified the 140-pound division in her next fight, defeating another Argentine fighter, Anahi Sánchez, in Maryland in May.
She knows that “Pantera” (26-3 10 KOs) will go out on a limb, to try and seize the title back, and has honed her reflexes accordingly.
“With the passage of time I have become the rival to try and beat. I have demonstrated my quality and I am prepared for any challenge. First of all I must come out of this fight with my arm raised aloft. And then I will seek to become the undisputed champion of the division. My team and I are proud of the goals we have achieved and we have more to achieve. just like everyone else in the gym. By example, we want to encourage children in the schools, to keep striving for their dreams no matter what.”
McCaskill’s rematch with Farias is part of a great night of action in Chicago, led by Oleksandr Usyk’s heavyweight debut against Chazz Witherspoon.
