From WBF:
Tie-Breaker: Nonina Defends WBF World Title In Third Clash With Mokebisi
By: Clive Baum
A great rivalry has developed on the South African boxing scene, as World Boxing Federation (WBF) Womens World Bantamweight Champion Bukiwe Nonina, 12-4-1 (2), will defend her title in a third fight with compatriot Matshidiso Mokebisi, 8-7-1 (3), on Thursday October 26 at the Ferdi Meyer Hall in Welkom.
The pair first squared off in February of 2016 with the WBF International Bantamweight title on the line, and in this one Mokebisi, a clear underdog going in, rallied from behind to score an eighth round stoppage of Nonina in exciting fashion.
A rematch was quickly arranged for the following month with Nonina coming out on top by unanimous decision. At one victory a piece, the rubber-match is now set to settle the score, and this time the winner will emerge as “still” or “new” WBF World Champion.
Since the second outing, Mokebisi has defended her WBF International Bantamweight crown and added the same title at Super Bantamweight, as well as the South African national title. Nonina has also flourished, as she won the WBF World Bantamweight title last March, beating Germany´s former World Champion Alesia Graf on a close decision.
As is most commonly the case, both boxers are full of confidence that they will be able to win again:
“Some of my critics have been saying that I won the WBF World title by luck. I am determined to prove them wrong by beating Matshidiso for the second time”, said a focused Nonia to South African media last week.
Equally focused, Mokebisi coolly countered: “I have worked on the mistakes that made me lose to Bukiwe. I am ready to dethrone her!”
The very interesting tie-breaker will headline a show presented by The Iron Lady Promotions in association with Free State Province department of Sports, Arts, Culture & Recreation. As a special treat for local boxing fans, entry will be free of charge.
