Chicago’s Jessica McCaskill (5-2, 3 KOs) returns to action in Chicago on October 6th as a part of Matchroom Boxing show at Wyntrust Arena.

It has been nearly 10 months since she made a huge name for herself, earning the opportunity to challenge newly crowned WBA Lightweight Champion, Katie Taylor.

In that holiday matchup, McCaskill brought an unusual gameplan into London and pushes Taylor for a full 10 rounds. Against one of the fastest hands on earth and the rising star, McCaskill constantly applied the pressure and hurt the champion in her first world title challenge.

Having been named a major attraction in a female show in the Bahamas, along with Alicia Ashley, Melissa Hernandez, and others earlier this year, Team CasKilla was disappointed when it was cancelled and left them without action.

Along came Eddie Hearn with his Matchroom Boxing USA project and announced October 6th show in Chicago. Having shown the skills in London, McCaskill was immediately selected as a local feature.

It took longer than expected and after numerous high level opponents turned up lame, we finally learned that WBC Super Lightweight Champion Erica Farias (26-2, 10 KOs) of Argentina will make her first trip to North America and defend her title against to determined local.

Farias’ resume is deep, there is no question on that. Since taking her seconds career defeat at the hands of Cecilia Brækhus in June of last year, she has taken Unanimous Decision victories over Mexico’s Yamila Reynoso and countrywoman Ana Esteche.

“I’m thrilled to be fighting for a World title in my home town,” said McCaskill. “I know that Erica is a great World champion, but I learnt so much from fighting Katie and I feel like I am more than ready to take the title from her.
This bout will be an interesting one.”

Farias responded, “It is fantastic to be facing Jessica in Chicago.” She continued, “I know that with the home fans behind her, she will give it her all – but I will rise to the occasion too and put on a great show.”

Farias has already acknowledged that her career is coming to a close here soon.

McCaskill has been pushing herself and earning world title shots. She did take her 1st career loss at home, at UIC Pavilion in 2016. Hometown decisions should not be a factor.

Let’s just sit back and watch them bang!
