At the Centro Civico de Ecatepec in Ecatepec, México, Mexico, hometown favorite Yessica “Kika” Chavez (25-4-3, 4 KOs) is prepared for her second defense of her WBC Flyweight title against Argentina’s Vanesa Taborda (8-4-3).
Chavez is rising a 4 match undefeated streak while rising to the current champion status. She earned the belt from her Unanimous Decision win over, then champion, Arely Mucino in August of 2015. The first successful defense was in December, a Technical Decision over Simona Galassi.
Taborda’s route to the championship is a bit rough, being winless in her last five bouts with controversial decisions and 3 of those matches being draws. Nonetheless, she comes prepared to fight and with complete confidence.
The challenger is quoted (from WBC):
“I am very happy to have the opportunity of fighting in Mexico again. In my country many great things are talked about Mexican boxing. This time it’s my turn to face and to fight the best Mexican fighter. I am ready for this challenge.”.
“My last two fights helped me to earn and to gain a chance for the world title and these kind of opportunities don’t come often. I’m going to be the next world champion. Winning the green and gold belt is the dream that all boxers have. This fight goes beyond honor. We are representing Argentina and Mexico. It’ll be great honor fror me to defeat Chavez in her own house.”
Saturday’s Championship Boxing show is presented by Promociones del Pueblo.
